Building Regulations
The Building Act is explained in a series of ‘Approved Documents’ which cover aspects such as structure, means of escape, drainage, conservation of heat and power, access, ventilation etc.

The Full Plans process is to submit an Application to a Local Authority’s Building Control Department or an Approved Inspector (private company). The application will be accompanied by the application fee, drawings, construction notes, Engineers’ details etc. The Building Control Department will allocate the application to an officer who will check the details and write to you or your agent with details of any further information they need.

The second route is the Building Notice. Again an application is submitted to the Local Council and accompanied by the application fee only. The Council can request any further information and this may include drawings, Engineer’s details etc.
